20 - Daniel Keating
Daniel Keating is a musician and songwriter from the USA who has been playing in bands since age 15. He also runs a hobby record label to release music from the various bands and projects he’s involved in.
Daniel’s guitars:
1985 Peavey Patriot, single coil Super Ferrite pickups. Very clean and bright with a fast, thin neck. Made in USA.
2013 PRS S2 Custom 24, upgraded with PRS pickups.
2000’s Carvin DC400, neck through, active electronics, piezo bridge, bells and whistles.
1987 Peavey Falcon, the best strat I’ve played. Also has the thin, fast maple neck like many 80’s Peaveys. Made in USA.
2004 Fender USA Precision Bass, the perfect bass.
1982 Ibanez Blazer Bass, every bit the P Bass, with snarl and mojo to boot. A gem.
2021 Harley Benton HB35 Plus, lovely coil-splitting semi-hollow body for about what you’d spend on a Squier.
2021 Fender Player Mustang 90, a MIM Mustang with Fender P-90s!
90’s Mockingwizard, BC Rich Bronze body, Ibanez Wizard 2 neck, Seymour Duncan Distortions and a Gibson lightning bridge. Killer axe.
80’s Kramer partscaster, focus (ESP) body, aftermarket neck, PRS import pickups. Replaced Floyd Rose with standard bridge. My main player for a couple years.
What was your first guitar and do you still have it?
My first guitar was an 1987 E-series Fender Strat (Japan) that I included in a trade for my PRS. I don’t miss it, and besides, the Peavey Falcon is a much better strat.
What is your favorite guitar right now and why?
No question my favorite guitar is the PRS. It’s the best guitar I’ve ever played. But the Carvin right up there too.
What is your newest purchase?
My newest guitar is the Carvin. I offloaded some guitars (and cash) and was considering a Gibson SG. But the Carvin caught my eye, and I think it’s a much more exciting guitar. It’s crazy versatile, immaculately built in California, and plays great.
How often do you play?
I’m not a disciplined player whatsoever, but I have a guitar in my hands a few times a week.
What's the music you are creating? What's the mission behind it?
Musically, I’m quite influenced by 80’s/new wave bands, punk and metal.
