32 - Maurice Maaskant
Maurice is a 30-year-old music enthusiast from the Netherlands. His musical journey began when he was just a child, often found absorbing the melodies and rhythms of his father's guitar playing. Bands such as Jimi Hendrix and The Beatles were his influences.
His father bought the family's first electric guitar when Maurice was around 9 years old. This guitar was then shared by his father, his brother and himself.
From a young age, Maurice possessed a deep affection for metal music. This genre continued to reverberate in his heart and soul, shaping his musical preference for the rest of his life. His repertoire primarily consisted of metal music, varying from the classics of Metallica to the raw authenticity of death metal.
In April 2023 Maurice transitioned from playing electric guitar to bass guitar. This switch proved momentous for him, and the bass guitar presently stands as his qualified instrument of choice.
Maurice’s guitars:
Ibanez btb 806 multiscale - I knew I wanted this one since the first time I laid my eyes on it. I love the colors, the shape, the fanned frets. And it plays and sounds like a charm.
Ibanez btb 1936 premium - Like the 806, I think you can't go wrong with the BTB range. I wanted a non multiscale BTB beside my 806.
Jackson x concert bass 5 string - My first bass guitar. I was very happy with my previously owned Jackson guitars, so when I was in the market for my first bass guitar it's the brand I went for. It has good playability and the overall quality is really solid
Jackson x concert bass 4 string - Learning to play fingerstyle the low B string was a bit of an obstacle for me. I was really happy with my 5 string Jackson so I bought this one. It's also nice to have a 4 string when you don't need the low B.
Gibson es135 - It belonged to my best friends grandfather. With his passing they gave it to me. A very special guitar with great sounds. And of course it looks stunning!
Ibanez v302BS - This was my fathers first ever guitar. He bought it when he was 18 years old. When he passed away I got it, so it's also a very special guitar to me.
Custom made J type bass - I wanted to make my own bass guitar. It was a really fun project. Put some nice J bass emgs into it. Plays and sounds really well! I'm happy how it turned out.
Custom made explorer guitar - After my custom bass guitar I wanted to make an explorer shape guitar. Fitted it with James Het. set emgs. Also really happy how it turned out!
What was your first guitar and do you still have it?
The first guitar that I owned was an explorer model guitar, It was a cheap brand which I do not recall. I do not own this guitar anymore, it did make me love explorer shaped guitars!
What’s your favorite guitar right now and why?
My ibanez btb 806 is my favorite. There's just something about it that makes me want to play it over and over. I love how it plays, how it sounds and how it looks.
What’s your newest purchase?
My newest addition is my custom made explorer, made an explorer shape because of my first ever guitar.
How often do you play?
Every day. I try to play atleast 1 hour/day.
